Where to Go for Fajitas - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Nothing beats the authentic Southwest flavor of a sizzling skillet of fajitas, which combines your favorite base (steak, chicken, shrimp, or chorizo) with sauteed bell peppers and onions. They're served with cheese, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and warm tortillas. They're tasty, filling, and very easy to share! It's no wonder why everyone loves them.

With so many good Mexican restaurants across Ohio, you don't have to travel far to find some phenomenal fajitas. Here are some of our top choices.

Señorita Bonitas

6000 Enterprise Pkwy., Solon, OH 44139

Once you see a skillet of sizzling fajitas coming out of the kitchen at Señorita Bonitas, you'll know you have to order them. This colorful Mexican restaurant and cantina serves the specialty "Fajita Texanas," a spicy mix of steak, chicken, and shrimp with a side of fajita salad. You can also try the Fajitas Del Mar with scallops, shrimp, and broccoli. Either way, you'll definitely want to order your fajitas "suiza" style, which adds a layer of shredded, melted cheese on top. Enjoy your fajitas with a delicious margarita from the cantina!

El Jalapeños Authentic Mexican Restaurant

1313 W. 117th St., Cleveland, OH 44107

For some truly authentic Mexican cuisine and delicious fajitas in Cleveland, stop by El Jalapeños Mexican Restaurant. Seafood, steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas are all options on the menu at this low-key restaurant, and each plate comes with a side of Mexican rice and refried beans. Fajitas are the special of the day on Sundays when you can order the #44 fajitas for only $15.50. Fajitas are great when enjoyed with a margarita pitcher.

Si Señor Mexican Restaurant

16800 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, OH 44111

Si Señor Mexican Restaurant is one of the most popular local Mexican eateries offering many traditional dishes and great drinks. The food is high quality, and the service is fast. For something different, try the seafood fajitas, which mix scallops, mussels, and shrimp with sautéed peppers and onions. Steak, chicken, and shrimp are also available. Fajitas are the special of the day on Sunday, and a wide selection of beer and margaritas are also available.

La Casita

1355 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH 43220

You'll find quite an extensive fajita menu at La Casita in Columbus. This cozy cantina actually serves octopus fajitas! If you're looking for something more traditional, try the La Tierra Fajitas, which combines steak, chorizo, and chicken breast with bell pepper, onion, rice, beans, and ensaladita. Choose to dine indoors or out on the beautiful patio and take advantage of numerous drink and happy hour specials.

Chile Verde Cafe

4852 Sawmill Rd., Columbus, OH 43235

This desert-themed Tex Mex restaurant has a colorful, comfortable interior and all your favorite Mexican dishes, including some unique fajita options. Choose from Chili Verde Fajitas (your choice of meat), Hawaiian fajitas (chicken, peppers, and pineapple salsa), or Uncle John's fajitas (low-carb and gluten-free). Enjoy excellent service, great drinks, and delicious food in this fun, festive, and colorful atmosphere. Curbside pickup and online ordering are available.

El Acapulco

7475 Vantage Dr., Columbus, OH 43235

You'll find fajitas, tacos, burritos, and more at El Acapulco. Tender-sliced beef, chicken, or shrimp are all options on this menu, and be sure to add a side of Salsa Diablo for some extra spice. This family-owned and operated restaurant makes all dishes from scratch using fresh local ingredients. Happy hour is on weekdays from 4-7 p.m., with specials on nachos, daiquiris, beer, margarita pitchers, and more.

Los Potrillos

316 Ludlow Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220

Customers rave about the fajitas at Los Potrillos. Located in Cincinnati's Clifton neighborhood, this restaurant serves huge portions of your favorite Mexican dishes. The Fajitas Jalisco is a delicious combo of steak, chicken, and shrimp. Chorizo, crab, and fish fajitas are also options. Before your meal, snack on an order of fresh chips served with some of the best salsa in Cincinnati.

For some of the best fajitas and tacos in Southwest Ohio, head to Taqueria Mercado in downtown Cincinnati. This Mexican restaurant serves authentic cuisine made from recipes passed down for generations. We recommend the Super Fajitas for Two, which includes a shareable skillet of sizzling steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo with two fajita salads and warm tortillas. The menu is filled with tons of other great Mexican favorites, appetizers, and drinks.

El Jinete

3972 Red Bank Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45227

One of the most extensive fajita menus in Ohio can be found at El Jinete. This restaurant has friendly service, a beautiful atmosphere, and some fajitas you can't find anywhere else. Try the Fajita Tropicana (fajitas served inside a pineapple) or the Texas Parrilla for 2 Fajitas, a delicious combo of meats and sauteed vegetables. You'll also find tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and much more. They also offer a drink menu with several top-shelf margaritas.

Go Swimming Near Columbus, OH - Cutler Real Estate

Summer can be sweltering in Central Ohio! Luckily, there are ample opportunities to hit the lake and cool off in the Columbus area. If you're looking for a place to swim and soak up some sun this summer, visit these beaches near Columbus, OH.

Alum Creek Lake

3400 Lewis Center Rd., Lewis Center, OH 43035

Located less than 30 minutes north of Downtown Columbus, Alum Creek Lake is one of the most popular lakes for outdoor recreation. The lake spans 3,387 acres and is known as one of the best fishing lakes in Ohio. Anglers often catch bass and panfish in the area around Alum Creek State Park, which is also the lake's primary swimming destination. The park features a 3,000-foot sandy beach—the longest beach in any Ohio state park—and includes amenities like restrooms and changing areas, outdoor showers, beach vendors, and sand volleyball courts.

Buckeye Lake

2905 Leibs Island Rd. NE, Millersport, OH 43046

Spanning 3,173 acres in Fairfield and Licking counties, Buckeye Lake is a beautiful swimming and boating destination just half an hour east of Columbus. The shoreline of this large reservoir is home to Buckeye Lake State Park, Ohio's oldest state park, which remains a popular day-use area for summer picnics, hikes, and beach trips. The park includes two beaches: Fairfield Beach on the south side of the lake and Crystal Beach on the north side. Both beaches are open to the public from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.

Madison Lake

4860 E. Park Dr., London, OH 43140

Madison Lake is located in a region west of Columbus known as the Darby Plains, which offers some of the few remaining wild prairies in the state of Ohio. A small 106-acre reservoir that was built in the 1940s, Madison Lake is a highlight of the region. The lake is surrounded by Madison Lake State Park, which includes a 300-foot swimming beach, picnic areas, and boat launch facilities on the east side of the lake. A separate dog swim area, where pets are allowed to swim off-leash, is located on the opposite side of the lake. Boats are restricted to electric motors and non-powered craft only, making this an excellent lake for paddling as well.

Delaware Lake

75 Downing Rd., Delaware, OH 43015

Delaware Lake is a long, meandering reservoir just north of Columbus in Central Ohio. The lake spans 1,300 acres and offers excellent fishing for bass, crappie, and muskellunge. It's also a great swim spot, and Delaware State Park provides an 800-foot sandy beach where visitors can take a dip and soak up some sun. A picnic pavilion, playground, and modern restrooms are available at the beach, and there are also two designated boat swim areas on the lake. Delaware State Park also has a beautifully wooded campground with over 200 sites for tents and RVs.

Deer Creek Lake

20635 State Park Road 20, Mt Sterling, OH 43143

Just under 40 minutes south of Columbus, Deer Creek Lake is a picturesque 1,277-acre reservoir with a 15-mile shoreline surrounded by farmlands and forests. It's a great place to spend a long summer weekend, with rental cabins and over 200 electric campsites in Deer Creek Lake State Park. The park includes a beautiful 1,700-foot swimming beach, a popular spot to cool off on hot days. There's also a designated boat swim area located in the cove adjacent to the Deer Creek Lodge. Boats are allowed with unlimited horsepower, and Deer Creek Lake is also known for excellent fishing.

Prairie Oaks Dog Beach

2755 Amity Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026

Looking for a place where your four-legged friends can cool off? Located just minutes from Downtown Columbus, Prairie Oaks Metro Park is one of the city's best places to take dogs for a dip. The park has a designated dog beach on the shoreline of Lake 1, part of a cluster of small lakes within the park. Pets are also allowed on the park's hiking trails, but they must be leashed outside the immediate area around the dog beach. And while there's no designated "human swimming area" in the park, there's also no rule that says you can't go in with your canine pals!

Lake Hudson

Old River Road, Granville, OH 43023

Lake Hudson is a unique swimming destination in the Columbus area. This privately owned recreation lake offers crystal clear spring-fed waters that stay pleasantly cool even during the dog days of summer. There's a beautiful beach and picnic area on the lakeshore, along with fishing access and a place to launch small boats like canoes and kayaks. Membership grants you access to Lake Hudson any time, but there are also opportunities for some non-members to enjoy the facilities. Former members and residents of Licking, Fairfield, Perry, Muskingum, and Knox counties may visit the lake as guests.

Indian Lake

13156 OH-235, Lakeview, OH 43331

A post shared by Ian Roma (@romatography3)

Originally built as a shallow feeder lake for the Miami & Erie Canal in the 1800s, Indian Lake is now one of Western Ohio's most popular recreation lakes. Located just under an hour northwest of Columbus, Indian Lake offers 5,100 acres of water, making it one of the largest lakes in the state. Its wide-open spaces make it popular for boating, fishing, and jet-skiing, and the area around the lake offers great camping and hiking opportunities. If you're looking for a place to swim, head to Indian Lake State Park, where Old Field and Fox Island beaches offer 1,400 feet of beach access.

Carousels - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

While modern carousels are a beloved amusement ride, they have their roots in a combat preparation exercise from the Middle Ages. Knights attempted to spear small rings hanging overhead as they galloped in a circle. Commoners eventually adapted the game with the beginnings of our current form.

Did you know that the first carousel in the United States was built in the 1840s by Franz Wiesenhoffer in Hessville, OH? Our state is still recognized as the home of many incredible carousels, including those in Northeast Ohio, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

Cedar Point

1 Cedar Point Dr., Sandusky, OH 44870

Everyone knows that carousels are a traditional part of any respectable fair, carnival, and amusement park. Not surprisingly, Cedar Point takes their carousel game to a whole new level, with three carousels that make frequent appearances on top-10 lists. The Kiddy Kingdom Carousel, dating back to 1925 and features 52 animals, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Next is the Midway Carousel, built in 1912 and operating at Cedar Point since 1946, making it the park's oldest ride. Finally, challenge family and friends to a spin on the Cedar Downs Racing Derby, one of only two racing carousels in the United States. Visit the website for hours and ticket pricing.

Richland Carrousel Park

75 N. Main St., Mansfield, OH 44902

In honor of the ride's European origins, Richland Carrousel Park uses the French spelling of the word in its name. This delightful park features the first new hand-carved carousel constructed in the United States since the 1930s, built at nearby Carousel Works. Scenery panels on the carousel depict Malabar Farm, Richland County Courthouse, and other iconic locations and notable figures from the local area. Carousel rides are $1, with discounts for purchases of 6 or 50 rides. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.

Akron Zoo

505 Euclid Ave., Akron, OH 44307

Environmental education and awareness provide the theme for the Conservation Carousel at the Akron Zoo. The hand-carved figurines are likenesses of 33 animals from around the world, ranging from a ladybug and a penguin to a Komodo dragon, a peacock chariot that's wheelchair accessible, and a baby moose that contains a time capsule from 2010. Sustainable wood, repurposed concrete, and other green initiatives were incorporated in the construction of the carousel. Rides are $2 per person. Zoo admission is $14 for adults and $11 for ages 2-14. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily through October 31. Visit the website for seasonal hours.

Columbus Commons

160 S. High St., Columbus, OH 43215

In 2011, the historic City Center grounds were transformed into Columbus Commons, a 6-acre park in the midst of the beautiful downtown area. The centerpiece attraction is a hand-carved carousel with 18 charming figurines, including the OSU Buckeye horse, a frog prince, and a clown fish. Ohio Stadium and Franklin Park Conservatory are two of the hand-painted scenes decorating the canopy. Carousel rides are also a popular draw for Commons for Kids, held each Friday through August 12 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Rides are free at all times. Park hours are 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. daily.

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

3400 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45220

Carousels are generally thought of as rides for youngsters. That's not the case at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, where their Conservation Carousel is one of the more popular attractions during adults-only events such as Toast of the Wild. Of course, the carousel is a big hit with kids as well. Zoo members often upgrade their memberships at the prompting of their children, who like the unlimited carousel rides that are included. Standard pricing for rides is $3. Mark your calendar for 2023, when the zoo's new carousel will be installed. At twice the size of the current carousel, this version will feature 65 animals in a vintage open-air gazebo perched alongside Swan Lake. Admission ranges from $9.50-$25. The zoo is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through October 31. Visit the website for seasonal hours.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

4850 Powell Rd., Powell, OH 43065

After viewing real birds and wildlife in person, check out colorful recreations on the Grand Carousel at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The historic 1914 Mangels-Illions carousel revolves to the sounds of a fully restored band organ that plays periodically throughout the day. Rides are $2 per person. If you want the real experience, enjoy a camel ride for $7 or a pony ride for $5. Zoo admission is $16.99 for adults and $11.99 for ages 3-9. Prices are higher for non-Franklin County residents. The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. through August. Visit the website for seasonal hours.

Toledo Zoo & Aquarium

2 Hippo Way, Toledo, OH 43609

Travel to the continent of Africa on the carousel at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium. The sole African carousel in the world lets you ride atop 42 exotic animals, such as giraffes, zebras, and gorillas. Artwork on the canopy showcases many of the featured animals in their native habitats. Rides are $3 per person, with passes available for multiple rides at discounted rates. Zoo admission is $24 for adults and $21 for ages 2-11, with an additional $2 charge for non-Lucas County residents. Visit the website for hours.

Merry-Go-Round Museum

301 Jackson St., Sandusky, OH 44870

Inspiration for the Merry-Go-Round Museum came from a series of carousel stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service in 1988. Appropriately, the museum is housed in a former Sandusky Post Office building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to watching activities in the restoration shop, visitors can ride the museum's vintage 1939 Allan Herschell carousel as the band organ plays the classic "oom-pa-pa" sounds. The original figurines were unavailable, so the carousel is populated with pieces from the museum's collection or on loan from private collectors. Admission, including one ride token, is $6 for adults and $4 for ages 4-14. Hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon - 4 p.m. Sunday through Labor Day.

Round and Round

When it comes to your preferred carousel mount, do you go old-school with the horses, or do you make a dash for one of the other animals?

A Bell Through the Night is a daiquiri for "lovers of meadows and witchy things," made with Echo Spirits rum, jasmine cordial, honeysuckle, and lime. Need some time to decide? Order a Snaquiri, a miniature daiquiri made with bartender's choice. Feel free to bring in off-site food or purchase from one of the food trucks that are usually on hand. Hours are 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. - midnight Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. Sunday.

Museums for Watercolors - Columbus, OH - Cutler Real Estate

No other artistic medium can match the delicate beauty of watercolors. July is Watercolor Month, so what better time to take a closer look at this refined art form? This month, visit these places in Columbus to see some of the most dazzling watercolor pieces made by American artists. You might even get the chance to improve your own watercolor painting skills while you're at it.

Columbus College of Art and Design

60 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH 43215

The Columbus College of Art and Design is one of the most well-regarded private schools for art and design in the country. In addition to its top-class art instruction, the college also maintains several display spaces to showcase its students' work.

Watercolors are a favorite medium among students here, and you'll see many of their works displayed in the school's sprawling galleries. Displays are changed often, so be sure to check back later in the month if you want to see some fresh examples. You may also be able to hone your skills with the medium at the college's Saturday morning art classes, weekly events that are open to all adults in the community. Stop by and see what you can learn!

Cultural Arts Center

139 W. Main St., Columbus, OH 43215

Columbus' Cultural Arts Center offers residents the chance to explore new artistic horizons right here in their hometown. The center's many exhibitions and displays always includes some watercolor works, many of which are done by local artists who you may meet during your time in the building.

Some of the center's painting classes cover watercolor techniques as well, and many are open to beginners. If you've always wanted to try your hand at creating a masterpiece in this medium, now is your chance. Impress the center's curators, and your work might even end up being displayed in the on-site Loft Gallery!

Ohio State University Urban Arts Space

50 W. Town St., Suite 130, Columbus, OH 43210

Ohio State University also houses the Ohio State University Urban Arts Space, a more contemporary gallery featuring special exhibitions from students and prominent members of the community. During a single visit, you might see anything from pottery to performance art.

Watercolors are less prominent here, but they can still be found among the exhibited works. The space's displays are also rotated frequently, so check back often to catch sight of new and exciting works.

Columbus Museum of Art

480 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215

The Columbus Museum of Art is one of the biggest and most reputable museums in Ohio. The museum's permanent collection features several pieces by members of the Columbus Watercolor Society, a group of local artists who are masters of this tricky medium.

You can find more work from many of these watercolor artists in some of the cities surrounding Columbus, making this a must-see stop if you want to continue exploring the world of watercolors beyond the city limits. The museum's staff are also extremely knowledgeable and can help you find the pieces you're looking for if you have trouble finding your way through the building.

Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum

1813 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43210

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum is part of the Ohio State University Libraries. Since the university is a public institution, anyone can visit this place and explore their massive collection of comics and cartoon-style art.

The library's collection includes many pieces done in watercolors, a common medium for illustrations and other simplified graphics. It's the perfect place to scope out some pieces that diverge from the usual flowers and landscapes that are often depicted in this medium. Many of the pieces in the library's collection have also been digitized, so you can easily continue exploring their works from the comfort of your home if you run out of time during your trip.

Studios on High Gallery

686 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215

The Studios on High Gallery is Columbus's oldest artist-owned and operated art gallery. One of its proprietors is Antonio Gonzalez Garcia, a master watercolor painter whose works cover a diverse range of subjects including landscapes, animals, and even people. You can view his works anytime at the gallery to get a better sense of how versatile this medium can be.

If you want to learn some of the techniques that make Garcia's approach so special, you can also attend his Saturday classes. These sessions give you the chance to learn directly from the artist himself and help you take your skills to the next level.

Keny Galleries

300 E. Beck St., Columbus, OH 43206

Located in a quiet part of Columbus' German Village, the Keny Galleries offer a tranquil experience that perfectly suits the serene aesthetic of watercolors. Fittingly, this medium is a major focus of the galleries' exhibition and curation efforts.

The Keny Galleries have exclusive rights to the estate of Alice Schille, one of Ohio's most well-known and masterful watercolor painters. Dozens of Schille's works are available to view in the galleries' permanent collection, as well as the works of other prominent watercolor artists like John Singer Sargent and Childe Hassan. Prints of some of these works are also available for purchase, allowing you to take home a memento of the beauty you've experienced.

Summer Farmers Markets - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Farmers markets are the ideal destinations to buy local produce since what you're purchasing is typically grown nearby, and by the person you're buying it from. Not only will you be getting fresh, healthy food, but you'll also be supporting local farmers and vendors.

Many farmers markets have branched out to also feature live music and activities like cooking demonstrations to further their appeal. In fact, in addition to being local food destinations, they've also become places for the community to gather.

Check out the following nine places to stock up on local produce in Northeast Ohio, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

Frostville Farmers' Market

24101 Cedar Point Rd., North Olmsted, OH 44070

You'll find plenty of fresh, local food and handmade goods at Frostville Farmers' Market, located on the grounds of the Frostville Museum. All foods and goods come from within 75 miles of the market, so you know you're supporting local farmers and makers when you shop there. The market has become a destination for families, with music, children's activities, games, cooking demonstrations, and fun happenings such as a visit from a local farm's alpacas. Visit the market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through November and then from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. from November through April.

Crocker Park Market

1800 Crocker Rd., Westlake, OH 44145

Crocker Park Market is in a new location—on the corner of Crocker and Detroit Roads in front of Fidelity Investments—but it still provides the fresh items Northeast Ohio residents love to shop for. You'll find fresh produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, and more at the market, open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Sunday from April until mid-December. Local musicians are also sometimes featured.

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Market

Cleveland Clinic Campus, across the street from the Crile Building, 2039 E. 100th St., Cleveland, OH 44106

Going into its 14th year, the Cleveland Clinic farmers market offers goods from over 35 local farmers and producers each week. In addition to buying local food and products, you can listen to live music, watch cooking demonstrations, score free samples, and learn more about your health. Unlike many markets, the Cleveland Clinic market is open during the week rather than on the weekend, with hours from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from June until mid-October.

Markets at Pearl

North Pearl and West Gay Streets, Columbus, OH 43215

Located in downtown Columbus, Markets at Pearl combines three separate markets under one umbrella. Pearl Market dates back to 1992 and is open every Tuesday and Friday from 10:30-2 p.m. from May 20-October. Visit the market to shop for farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, check out artisanal goods, and get some lunch. Sunlight Market is held every third Sunday until December, drawing visitors downtown to shop from pop-up vendors and enjoy music. Moonlight Market is held every second Saturday from April-October.

Franklin Park Conservatory Farmers' Market

Wells Barn parking lot at Franklin Park Conservatory 1777 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43203

You'll find plenty you'll want to buy at the Franklin Park Conservatory Farmers' Market, including local produce, baked goods, specialty foods, handmade items, and health and beauty products. Each week brings vendors, live music, food trucks, and special giveaways and activities like a free tote bag or the chance to talk with master gardeners.

Westgate Farmers Market

2925 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43204

Shop for fresh produce, handcrafted goods, gourmet pet treats, baked goods, and more at Westgate Farmers' Market, where everything sold is produced by the vendor. You can enjoy live music while you browse, and food trucks are also onsite if you'd like to grab a meal to enjoy at the market or take home. Visit the market from 9 a.m.-noon on the first and third Saturdays June-October.

Northside Farmers Market

4222 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223

You'll be able to shop year-round at Northside Farmers Market, which provides items produced within 70 miles. In addition to fresh produce, meats, eggs, and bread, you can shop for items like handmade body products and prepared foods at the market. It's become a place for neighbors to gather and kids to learn how to cook. The market is open from 4-7 p.m. April-November and 4-6 p.m. December to March.

Hyde Park Farmers Market

2700 Erie Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208

You'll find a wide variety of local foods and other items from growers at the Hyde Park Farmers Market, including veggies, fruits, meats, eggs, garden plants, and more. Rare heirloom veggie varieties and heritage breed meats are also sold, and the market's vendors employ regenerative and humane practices. Although the wholesome food is the main attraction, live music helps make the market a popular gathering spot. The market is open Sundays from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May-October.

Sayler Park Farmer's Market

6600 Gracely Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45233

You'll find plenty of local vendors selling everything from fresh produce and honey to candles and home and garden decor at the Sayler Park Farmer's Market. Live music will entertain you while you shop from producers including Two Amigos Salsa, PAWsome Puppy Treats, Sayler Park Coffee, Hippie Pop Kettle Corn, and more. The market is open 4-7 p.m. every Tuesday June-August.

Nature Photography Destinations - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Did you know that every June 15 is Nature Photography Day? While there's never a bad time to capture the natural beauty of Ohio, this day provides the perfect excuse to explore the scenery of your favorite communities and take some great photos in the process. Whether you're exploring glacial, urban waterfalls in Northeast Ohio, gorgeous gardens around Columbus, or an ancient, world-renowned historic site near Cincinnati, you're sure to capture something special. Start your photography journey with our guide to nine of the best places around Ohio to capture nature for Nature Photography Day.

Berea Falls Scenic Overlook

136 E. Bagley Rd., Berea, OH 44017

One of the cool things about Ohio cities is how opportunities for nature photography are seamlessly integrated into urban landscapes. The Berea Falls Scenic Overlook, located a short drive from the heart of Cleveland, is one great example. After the glaciers receded following the last ice age, melting water formed rivers that reshaped the landscape. The Berea Falls were created by water from the Rocky River, carved through the abundant sandstone around Berea. There's so much natural beauty to capture here, with a different look every season.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

6947 Riverview Rd., Peninsula, OH 44264

Also located a short drive from Cleveland is the vast Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which features some of the most spectacular scenery that you'll find anywhere in Ohio. The park is located around the Cuyahoga River, with a mix of forests, rolling meadows, and farmland, all connected with an extensive, well-maintained trail system. Brandywine Falls is one of the most popular natural sites within the park and a perfect destination to seek out for nature photography. There's a viewing deck near the falls that makes it easy to get a great photo, as well as a nearby trail that allows you to capture images from various angles.

Mill Creek Park

123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509

Did you know that Ohio is home to the second-largest metropark in the United States, behind only Central Park in New York City? Mill Creek Park covers more than 2,500 acres, with a diverse selection of attractions located within park borders. There are beautiful gardens, lush wetlands, waterfront scenery, historic structures, and so much more to capture. Spend your day near the historic Lanterman's Mill, the Fellows Riverside Gardens, or the Ford Nature Center. The D.D. and Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center is the ideal place to start your journey at Mill Creek Park.

Topiary Park

480 E. Town St., Columbus, OH 43215

If you love art just as much as you love nature, then the Topiary Park in Columbus is one destination on our list that you definitely won't want to miss. It's home to one of the world's largest, most impressive topiary gardens, with 80 perfectly maintained life-size topiaries. The topiaries are laid out in a way that recreates a painting from the post-Impressionist era painter Georges Seurat.

Historic Clifton Mill

75 Water St., Clifton, OH 45316

Located less than an hour west of Columbus, you'll find the idyllic, natural setting of Historic Clifton Mill. Home to one of the few working grist mills in Ohio, Historic Clifton Mill is a great destination for blending nature and historical photography. The mill itself is a beautiful structure, which has been preserved to look and work just as it did during its heyday. The natural woodlands, serene creek, and gently flowing waterfalls surrounding the mill provide endless opportunities for capturing the perfect photo.

Schnormeier Gardens

8701 Laymon Rd., Gambier, OH 43022

With more than 50 acres of beautifully manicured gardens to explore, Schnormeir Gardens will keep you coming back again and again for nature photography. Many of the gardens here were created in the Chinese and Japanese styles, with abundant water features blending in with natural scenery. There are lakes, waterfalls, streams, woodlands, bridges, and beautiful, exotic plants to discover. Spring and summer are ideal times to visit for photography, with so many of the plants within the gardens in full bloom.

Loveland Castle

12075 Shore Dr., Loveland, OH 45140

Part historic landmark, part tribute to an order of knights, Loveland Castle is unlike any other destination on our list. It is, after all, a castle that looks like it was plucked straight from the medieval era and dropped into modern-day Ohio. The castle itself is more than worthy of some dedicated time with the camera, and the natural beauty around Loveland Castle makes this a fun destination for nature photography. While you're there, check out the on-site museum to learn more about how and why a stone castle was built in the 1920s around the corner from Cincinnati.

Serpent Mound Historical Site

3850 OH-73, Peebles, OH 45660

Here's another truly unique destination with a history that stretches back thousands of years to a time when Ohio looked very different than it does today. The Serpent Mound was built by the Adena tribe of Native Americans who called the area home thousands of years ago, stretching for 1,300 feet and built in the shape of a serpent. It's the largest effigy mound of its kind in the world and still stands out among the wooded, hilly landscape even after thousands of years. So if you want to capture something unique to Ohio which can't be found anywhere else, this is the perfect place to find it.

Krohn Conservatory

1501 Eden Park Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45202

The Cincinnati area is also home to some more conventional locations for nature photography, including some like the Krohn Conservatory, which doesn't even require you to leave the city. Created in 1933, the Krohn Conservatory is home to thousands of plants from around the world, with different "houses" holding plants from different parts of the world. The Palm House replicates a tropical rainforest environment, while the Desert House is attuned to plants that thrive in an arid, hot landscape with minimal rainfall. The Krohn Conservatory is also home to the Orchid House, which showcases orchids from all around the world, and the John Carroll Bonsai Gallery, which highlights the unique techniques used to grow bonsai trees.

Frame Your Next Ohio Adventure

These nine destinations are just the start of what you'll find in Ohio. From limestone caverns deep underground to the rolling, rustic landscape of Amish Country, there's so much to explore. What will you capture next?

Spend the Day on the Water - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

One of the many advantages of living in Ohio is the abundant natural resources and recreational opportunities available throughout the state. You'll find plenty of sparkling lakes where you can go boating, fishing, or swimming, and each has its own uniquely beautiful setting.

If you're looking to spend the day on the water near Northeast Ohio, Columbus, and Cincinnati, the following eight lakes are great destinations.

Portage Lakes

5031 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319

Instead of representing just one lake, Portage Lakes is a system of eight lakes that encompass over 2,000 acres. They're very popular destinations throughout the year, with bass fishing in season and ice fishing in the winter. Two of the Portage Lakes, Rex Lake and Cottage Grove Lake, have a swimming area for boaters, and you can relax on a 900-foot public beach and swim at Turkeyfoot Lake. And when you're ready to take a break from your time out on the water and try some different activities, you'll find hiking trails and picnic areas surrounding the lakes.

Pymatuning Lake

6100 Pymatuning Lake Rd., Andover, OH 44003

Pymatuning Lake is Ohio's largest inland lake, covering just over 17,000 acres. Located on the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line, it's a popular destination for boaters, swimmers, and campers. And if you'd like to fish for walleye, this lake is the perfect destination. Near the causeway, you can enjoy a public swimming beach with amenities like changing facilities, showers, and restaurants, so it's a great place to go with the kids.

Mosquito Creek Lake

2961 Warren Meadville Rd., Cortland, OH 44410

A visit to Mosquito Creek Lake, located near Youngstown, offers plenty of water-based activities like boating and fishing. Crappie, walleye, bluegill, perch, bass, and flathead/channel catfish are abundant. Five launch ramps and boat rentals make fishing on the lake convenient. When you're ready to swim, head to the lake's public swimming beach, complete with a dog swimming area and roomy dog park attached.

Lake Hope

27331 OH-278, McArthur, OH 45651

About an hour's drive from Columbus, Lake Hope is situated in one of the state's most historic and scenic state parks. The area is rugged and beautiful, filled with steep gorges and narrow ridges. The lake is relatively small compared to some others in the state, but it's still ideal for boats, canoes, and rowboats. Stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are offered on the lake, so you can learn a new skill as you take in the beautiful natural setting. If you'd like to swim, head toward the dam to locate a beach complete with a bathhouse with restrooms, showers, and changing booths, as well as a concession building.

Seneca Lake

22172 Park Rd., Senecaville, OH 43780

Ohio's third-largest inland lake, Seneca Lake is an extremely popular destination for boaters. You'll find ski boats, sailboats, pontoons, canoes, kayaks, jet skis, and other watercraft sharing the lake's 3,550 acres of water. You can even dock your watercraft at The Dockside Restaurant and enjoy a meal before heading back on the water. If you'd like to haul in some fish from the lake, you'll find many species in abundant supply, including crappie, bluegill, bullheads, and largemouth bass. A sandy swimming beach is also available, with a full concession stand on-site.

Tappan Lake

84000 Mallarnee Rd., Deersville, OH 44693

Fishermen and recreational boaters often flock to Tappan Lake's 2,131 acres. It's easily accessible from Stock and Franklin townships, with their roads bordering three long bays on the north side. If you like to fish from the shore, the lake is the perfect spot since it has 47 miles of shoreline, which is the most of any lake in the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.

Caesar Creek Lake

8570 E. State Route 73, Waynesville, OH 45068

This large lake is just about an hour north of downtown Cincinnati, and it's the perfect spot to spend a day on the water. You'll find plenty of places to go boating, kayaking, and fishing, along with plenty of amenities like a marina, launch ramps, and dock rentals. Fishing for muskellunge draws many visitors to the lake, and it's known to offer some of the best crappie fishing in the state.

Harsha Lake

3294 Elklick Rd., Bethel, OH 45106

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Mrs Lawson (@olivejuice2020)

Located about 25 miles from Cincinnati, Harsha Lake is often called East Fork Lake due to its location in East Fork State Park. Seven boating launch ramps are available, and plenty of fishermen head to the lake for crappie, bass, and bluegill. The large lake also has a 1,200-foot public beach and swimming area where you can go when you're ready to relax. If you'd like to enjoy a picnic, you'll also find plenty of areas around the lake where you have a bite to eat before heading back out on the boat.

Miami Whitewater Forest Lake

Mount Hope Road, Harrison, OH 45030

Located only about 30 miles from downtown Cincinnati, Miami Whitewater Forest Lake has a wide variety of watercraft to rent, so you can easily get out on the water. Choose from rowboats, pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and motor and pontoon boats; pick up some fishing gear; and head out on the water. Several perfect picnic spots are situated around the lake when you're ready to take a break.

Dinner Theater - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

If you're looking for a unique way to spend an evening this summer, dinner and the theater might be just the outing for you. Ohio is home to an impressive array of performing artists, including actors, comedians, and musicians. Take some time to get out there and see them at any of the exciting venues listed below.

The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show

1260 Euclid Ave. Inside Crown Plaza at Playhouse Square, Cleveland, OH 44115

At The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show, you get to play the part of a detective in a gripping theatrical murder plot. As you eat your four-course dinner and enjoy access to a cash bar, you will watch the murder scene unfold before your eyes. Each event features plainclothes actors sprinkled throughout the audience, giving the proceedings a more unpredictable and dramatic flair. It's an interactive experience where anyone in the room could be a part of the mystery. At the end of the night, the person who figures out the identity of the murderer first will win a small prize for their efforts.

Amish Country Theater

4365 OH-39, Millersburg, OH 44654

Hoping to bring your kids on your night out? The Amish Country Theater is one of the few fully family-friendly theater establishments in Ohio. This local theater features a full complement of nightly variety shows that evoke the popular vaudeville shows of the early 20th century. Special guests appear periodically to shake up the venue's usual farm-themed routines. The performances are diverse, surprising, and always entertaining, giving you something new to look forward to each time you visit.

Noble Art Entertainment

5475 Lake Rd., Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH 44041

The Noble Art Entertainment dinner theater experience is always a fun option for a night out in Northeast Ohio. Some of their shows, such as murder mystery dinners, are interactive. Others are more traditional theater experiences. Each is performed during a three- to six-course dinner with vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options available. Vegan dishes may also be provided with advance notice and a small surcharge. Check out the list of upcoming shows and show menus on their website to see which types of events are available this summer.

La Comedia

765 W. Central Ave., Springboro, OH 45066

La Comedia is a popular live dinner theatre in the Cincinnati area. When you attend, you'll be invited to eat your fill from a massive buffet filled with delicious options like fried chicken and fish, homemade cornbread, sauerkraut, and potato soufflé. This company is best known for its musical performances, but you can catch all kinds of shows here at different points in their rotation. This summer, they will be performing Beauty and the Beast starting on June 2nd, followed by The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee starting July 28th.

Cincinnati Landmark Productions

4990 Glenway Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45238

Cincinnati Landmark Productions has been operating under different names for nearly 36 years. In that time, they have become one of Ohio's premier entertainment destinations. Some of the shows they have lined up for the summer months of 2022 include Newsies, Jerry's Girls, and Carousel. CLP also hosts the Cincinnati Young People's Theater at their Covedale building. This summer, this group will be putting on an all-teen performance of the beloved high school musical Grease.

Cincinnati Dinner Train

2172 E. Seymour Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45237

Experience a whole new meaning of "meals on wheels" on the Cincinnati Dinner Train. Buying a ticket on this vintage train entitles you to a four-course dinner served while rolling through the most scenic spots around the outskirts of Cincinnati. The train itself is themed around the 1940s and includes several carefully restored cars to accommodate guests. The highlight of these is the Albee Car, an impressive space featuring a full musical stage. This spot is home to the Queen City Sisters, a retro musical group singing songs from the period to complete the mood. By the time you step off the train at the end of the night, you'll feel as if you've gone back in time.

The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show

Inside Hilton, 401 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215

The Columbus version of The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show offers the same thrilling experience as the company's Cleveland location. Remember that there is a lot of frightening imagery involved at these dinners, including simulated gunshots and sudden blackouts—all guests must be over 15 to attend. Adults can look forward to a thrilling night of puzzle-solving, intrigue, deception, and eventual triumph. Even if you are not the person to eventually catch the killer, you're sure to leave feeling pleased to have had the chance to exercise your detective skills.

The Murder Mystery Company

2101 Noe Bixby Rd., Columbus, OH 43232

Over the course of just two hours, The Murder Mystery Company offers a three-course dinner and a Clue-style murder mystery performance. This company themes each of their performances to enhance the experience and provide something different for repeat guests. Some recent themes include Midnight at the Masquerade, Death of a Gangster, and Totally 80s, Totally Murder. Guests are encouraged to dress up to match the theme of the night. Adult guests can also purchase alcohol at any point during the show.

A Murder Mystery Dinner

1625 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH 43220

At Columbus' A Murder Mystery Dinner, you'll experience more than just a show. Guests at this dinner theater are taken through an engaging murder mystery through step-by-step interactive dramatizations of events. In between these dramatizations, guests are invited to solve escape room-style puzzles together as a team. This format is a great way to see how well your companions work together as well as how well each of you works with other people. Some of these events are adult-only, while others accommodate teenage guests as well. Check out your options in advance if you plan to bring younger people to the show.

Double Up on Dinner and Drama

There's nothing like a night on the town to get you feeling on top of the world. Which of these entertainment experiences will you be attending this summer?

The "Roller Coaster Capital of the World" is right here in Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. But even if you're not a thrill-seeker, there's plenty to enjoy at Cedar Point, voted "Best Amusement Park in America" by readers of USA Today. Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

714 N. Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303

Unlike many historic homes, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens isn't named after a former owner. The estate was built in the early 1910s for Goodyear co-founder F.A. Seiberling and his family. "Stan Hywet" is actually an Old English term for "stone quarry," which was the most prominent natural feature of the grounds. Today, visitors can tour the stunning 65-room Tudor Revival Manor House along with the Gate Lodge, Corbin Conservatory, and the series of colorful gardens on the property. Hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Visit the website for pricing.

Put-in-Bay

Put-in-Bay, OH 43456

The crown jewel of Lake Erie's Bass Islands is often referred to as the "Key West of the North." With a great mix of historic, cultural, and entertainment attractions, Put-in-Bay offers something for everyone. The island's most popular site is Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial, with its towering observation deck providing views of Lake Erie, Cleveland, Toledo, and Detroit. This faithful replica of a 10th-century castle was intended to be the base of a group of Sunday school students taught by WWI vet Harry Delos Andrews. As a medieval warrior buff, Andrews dubbed the group, "Knights of the Golden Trail," and began construction on the castle for its 100+ members. After touring Loveland Castle and its display of medieval weapons, stroll the surrounding gardens and have a picnic lunch overlooking the Little Miami River. You enter this casual restaurant from an alley, and that's part of the appeal. It's tucked away like a secret, but it's a secret worth sharing. Alley Burger often has live music, and the chef relies on traditional family restaurants to make delicious meals.

At Ally Burger, you don't have to stick with a beef burger, though their beef burgers are certainly delicious. The Fish Burger is a popular choice; it's topped with a house-made Creole tartar sauce. The Greek Burger, made with tzatziki cream, banana peppers, and feta, is another smart choice. Make sure you order some fries for the table. There are lots of creative options, such as the Oscar Alley fries topped with chorizo, pico de gallo, lime crema, chimichurri, and cheese.

Pair it with some Parmesan-panko onion rings, and you have a truly munch-worthy meal.

Mason Jar Treats are another favorite at Burger Theory. They're the perfect, sweet way to end a meal. Choose from flavors like key lime pie, s'mores, and carrot cake. Visit Burger Theory Monday-Friday from 5-7 pm for Happy Hour Specials, which vary by the day.

Located in the Arts District, Arch City Tavern is known for their lively happy hours. Visit Monday-Friday between 3 and 6 pm to take advantage of their drink specials. Of course, you'll want to order a burger while you're there. The bartenders at Arch City Tavern are pretty talented, making this a good place to order cocktails. Their Smoked Tavern Old Fashioned, in particular, is incredible. They also have a delicious Spiced Pear & Pomegranate Margarita.
