242 years ago, our founding fathers signed our great nation into existence — giving us one heck of a reason to celebrate! Fourth of July presents the chance to gather with friends and family, enjoy fireworks and barbecues, and venture out to some of the area's celebratory events. There are so many fun things happening in the Akron and Canton area this year in celebration of our independence, but we rounded up some of our favorites to help you plan. So gather your loved ones, don your patriotic apparel and get ready to make this a holiday to remember!    

Military Appreciation Night for the Akron RubberDucks | Akron

When: June 29, 7:05 pm Where: Canal Park          Akron RubberDucks

Root for the home team at this patriotic ball game! The Akron RubberDucks, Akron's beloved baseball team, invites the local community to cheer them on in celebration of our country. After all, baseball is America's national pastime. Military members, veterans and their families will all receive $5 tickets.  

The 41st Annual Rib, White & Blue Festival | Akron

When: June 29-July 4. Times vary. Where: Lock 3 Park Live music, vendor booths, family-friendly activities and the smell of barbecue in the air — it doesn't get much better than this! Come sample offerings from some of the area's best barbecue vendors — all serving up ribs, chicken, pork, brisket, roasted vegetables and so much more. You'll need as much fuel as possible to dance the night away! Admission is free for all six days.  

4th of July Fireworks Show & Race at Barberton Speedway | Norton

When: June 29, sunset Where: Barberton Speedway It's always a good day at the Speedway! Come witness the excitement of the car race followed by a brilliant fireworks display over the tracks.  

Grape Escape: Red White and Blush | Akron

When: June 30, 7:30 pm Where: Akron Northside Station Grape Escape

All aboard! The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad invites you to join in a special patriotic wine excursion on the weekend before Independence Day. Explore the beauty of Cuyahoga Valley National Park on a two-hour train ride while sipping on wine. Each passenger will be served five wine tastings and several appetizers, and additional beverages and food will be available for purchase.  

City of Champions Independence Day Festival | Massillon

When: July 3, 5-10:30 pm Where: Tommy Henrich Drive Northwest This free annual festival in Massillon is sure to go off with a bang! Enjoy a thrilling live performance from RadioActive Band and then enjoy the fireworks display at 10 pm. There will be food vendors, kid-friendly activities, and the annual Li'l Miss Liberty & Li'l Uncle Sam Event (a pageant-style contest for children ages 3-8).  

The Firecracker Run | Stow

When: July 4, 7:30 am Where: 3179 Kent Road Throw on your running shoes and come celebrate America at Stow's 40th Annual Firecracker Run. The 3K fun run and the four-mile race will take place on the Fourth of July Parade route. 70s attire is encouraged and winners will receive groovy medals.  

The Stow Fourth of July Parade | Stow

When: July 4 Where: From the Stow-Kent Shopping Center down Kent Road Every year, the city of Stow throws a magnificent parade through the streets. This year's event is expected to be bigger than ever before, featuring more than 100 entries and thousands of viewers. The theme this year is "Welcome to the Sixties," so dress accordingly!  

The North Canton Fourth of July Celebration | North Canton

When: July 4, 10:30 am-10:30 pm Where: Hoover High School The North Canton Jaycees take their Fourth of July Celebration seriously! This annual event features a community parade in the morning followed by a red, white and blue celebration in the park. At night, the skies will come alive with a magnificent fireworks display.  

Fun Run and Parade in Bicentennial Park | Aurora

When: July 5, 11 am-3 pm Where: Kiwanis-Moore Park Come join in the Fourth of July fun at Aurora's Bicentennial Park. The parade kicks off at 11 am at Barrington Town Square, and the subsequent festival will include live music, food trucks, community activities and fireworks after dusk. If you'd like to participate in the fun run (which takes place before the parade), register in advance here.
