We love our artsy city of Canton, Ohio. Even though we have grown into a town of over 70,000 residents, we haven’t lost our small-town vibe. And, because there are so many places to explore in the area, you can get a taste of city life without having to go very far.
While there are many areas of the city worth exploring, we’re going to focus on the Canton Arts District, a quaint section of the city filled with amazing restaurants, cafes, monuments, art galleries, shops and much more.
Use our step-by-step itinerary to help plan your day or simply take a couple of ideas for your next visit to the area. No matter what you decide to do or where you end up exploring — you’re in for an unforgettable day.
Start With Coffee
You can’t go wrong with starting your day with a cup of coffee. Thankfully the Canton Arts District is home to several amazing coffee shops where you can grab some caffeine and prepare for the day to come.
Muggswiggs Coffee Shop is a great choice and was even named one of the best coffee shops in the United States by USA Today in 2014. Not only is their coffee amazing, but their adorable shop is also the perfect place to relax with a good book or great friends.
Espresso Yourself is located in the Courtyard Center building and offers delicious coffees, teas, smoothies and baked goods.
Cultured Coffee and Waffles is the perfect spot to visit if you’re looking for something heartier to accompany your coffee. They serve a variety of sweet and savory waffles along with a great selection of beers on tap.
Do a Little Shopping

It’s impossible to spend a day in the Arts District without leaving with a new piece of art or a handmade gift from a local artisan. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a loved one or just a souvenir to commemorate the day, there are several incredible downtown shops that will have exactly what you need.
Arrowhead Vintage and Handmade Goods is run by husband and wife team Melissa and Dave Sherrill and is a go-to Canton destination for retro, vintage, mid-century furnishings and more!
Cantonology is a shop to visit if you love our amazing city. It is owned by a mother and daughter team who love Canton and work hard to promote the city through a wide variety of hand-crafted souvenirs and gifts.
Next Chapter Bookstore is one of our favorite bookstores in Northeast Ohio and specializes in classic fiction, non-fiction, instructional guides, vintage books along with community building.
Artisan Boutique loves local artisans, that’s why they support Ohio crafters and makers by offering a uniquely curated line-up of hand-made products in their quaint shop.

After all of that excitement, you’ll definitely need to refuel in the middle of the day. You can’t go wrong with any of the eateries in The Arts District, but here are a few of our favorites:
Street Side offers chef-driven Mexican street food, a wide variety of Ohio beers and handcrafted cocktails. From street tacos to burritos — their menu holds a great mix of options everyone will love.
Arcade Coneys is a Canton classic with their outdoor seating right next to the courthouse and a beautiful view of the Courthouse Angels. Their coney sauce is legendary and we promise you won’t be disappointed when you try it.
Deli Ohio features both traditional and adventurous deli sandwiches along with sides, soups and salads that are all made in-house and created using fresh, in-season ingredients.
Peruse Some Fantastic Art

The Canton Arts District is home to seven galleries, 22 artists studios and an abundance of unique public art everywhere you look. While you’re in the area, you have to stop by at least one gallery or studio and experience the passion of our artsy city residents.
Canton Museum of Art houses some of the most dynamic and original exhibits in the country. From their celebrated national touring exhibits to their original displays that feature incredible artists from around the world — a visit to the museum is an experience you won’t want to miss.
Juilliard’s 3rd Space Gallery is a unique space that has been designed and coordinated by children and features their artwork! This is a great time for the whole family and allows you to see what the next generation of artists are creating.
Canton Glass Works offers affordable and functional hand-blown glass along with glass blowing demonstrations. You can even attend one of their workshops to learn how to do it yourself.
Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography is one of the country’s largest premier galleries dedicated solely to photography. Most of the collection is for sale and holds landmark works by more than 160 lensmen and women.
Hub Art Factory is a studio space and art gallery for a variety of celebrated local artists. They often host special events including art shows and art battles, where one artist is pit against another with only a canvas, paint and brushes as their weapons.
Sit Down For Dinner
Now it’s time to sit back and relax with a great meal and a glass of wine at a fantastic restaurant in the heart of the Canton Arts District!
Lucca is a farm-to-table eatery that offers authentic Italian cuisine in an intimate and beautiful setting. Their menu changes seasonally to take advantage of the local bounty, allowing you to experience a unique dish every time you visit.
George’s Lounge has been a Canton favorite for almost 60 years and is a great place to enjoy a local grass-fed gourmet burger with a side of hand-cut fries.
Napoli’s Italian Eatery has been consistently ranked as some of the best pizza in all of Stark County. Here, you’ll find delicious pasta dishes, sandwiches, appetizers and more.
See a Show
Last, but definitely not least, to top off your event-filled day in the Canton Arts District, consider seeing a show at one of the marvelous theatres around the area! At these venues, you’ll be able to observe everything from plays and concerts to even movies.
Canton Palace Theatre is the heartbeat of the Canton community and plays host to over 300 events each year. This stunning venue is a piece of Canton history and the perfect place to see a beautiful performance or your favorite actors on screen.
Canton Ballet was founded in 1965 and comprises Ohio’s largest pre-professional performing company and school. The company consists of nearly 50 junior and senior high school students who present an annual season of performances in the fall, winter and spring.
Kathleen Howland Theatre is a classic, intimate black-box style theatre that always offers an exciting lineup of plays, performances and concerts throughout the year.
